Could be that you soaked your rice for too long or that you used too much water while boiling it. The secret to making delicious biryani is to keep making it....!!! :)Happy Cooking !!

Thank you for your prompt answer. I did use basmati rice but think I might have overcooked it. I will try not to overcook it next me. Let's see how the biryani turns out next.
